Engine failure!

I am in the process of adding pictures from the Oxford seminar I just attended, but I got the answer "engine failure" when I tried to save a picture in Nikon Capture NX! I have been gathering material concerning a new lap top, and will decide any day now which one to buy. It will probably ease the situation. I need a computer with a minimum of 1 GB RAM but have found one with 2 GB. I have an external hard disk with 250 GB, but want the laptop to have at least 120 GB. I anyone who reads this has any suggestion, please use the Comment function to let me know which computer to buy.

Sarmite concentrates (Photo: Helena Hurme)

Sarmite was not at all aware of me taking this picture as she was concentrating on her presentation at the Oxford conference. I'll remove this picture (and any other from the conference) if the persons(s) in the picture wishes so. However, I got a permission from all and promised not to publish any comprometting ones.

Using my hands (Photo: Claudine Attias-Donfut)

As I use my camera a lot (also at the seminar in Oxford which I attended recently) people propose to take my picture. Here Claudine Attias-Donfut has caught some typical features of me: I talk a lot and use my hands in talking. Perhaps I told her about the 12-15 kilo salmons we use to catch in the seventies and eighties while fishing in Lapland?

Kees is very photogenic (Photo: Helena Hurme)

Kees told me that someone has drawn several carricatures of him. I understand that very well: Kees is very photogenic.

From Keukenhof (Photo:Helena Hurme)

I am trying to keep awake in order to adjust to GMT as I am going to Oxford in four days. One way of not falling asleep is to post pictures! here is one more slide which I scanned a few days ago. This one is taken in Spring 1984 when I visited Keukenhof with some friends. I returned there a few years ago from a seminar in Wassenaar. It truly is one of the most beautiful places I have visited in my life and I have been around a lot.

A waterfall at Mainau (Photo:Helena Hurme)

This picture is taken in Spring 2003, when I visited Konstanz and walked from the university to the island of Mainauin southern Germany near the Swiss border. I took a lot of pictures of both the castle and the flowers and butterflies. I liked this picture especially much.

A view from the KUMO museum (Photo:Helena Hurme)

Here is a view from a window at the KUMO museum of modern art in Tallinn, Estonia.

An interior from the KUMO museum of modern art in Tallinn, Estonia in spring.

I found this photo of a staircase at the KUMO museum of modern art in Tallinn, Estonia, very dramatic, especially in this black-and-white format.

The yard of the KUMO museum (Photo:Helena Hurme)

This is a picture from the yeard of the KUMO museum of modern art in Tallinn, Estonia. To me the picture looks as one from the fifties! it may be because the black and white color scheme.

Balloons at the KUMO museum (Photo: Helena Hurme)

This photo depicts an installation of balloons at the KUMO museum of modern art in Tallinn, Estonia. On could look into the installation as into a cave.

This is one of several interior pictures which I took last spring at the KUMO museum of modern art in Tallinn, Estonia.

This picture is from a corridor at the KUMO museum for modern art in Tallinn, Estonia, which I visited last spring. It is planned by a Finnish architect. I found the building very interesting.

A pastoral scene in Denmark ( Photo: helena Hurme)

This slide depicts the park of one of the royal castles in Denmark. My husband and I biked over 500 kilometers in less than two weeks there. On a beautiful Sunday morning, I took this picture of some beech trees.

A view from our window? (Photo: Helena Hurme)

This is one of the slides I scanned. I think it was taken 1990 in Istambul, but I am not sure. I guess it is a view from our hotel window but it may as well be houses reflected in some statue!

A field with tulips (Photo: Helena Hurme)

Also this slide is taken in 1984 in Keukenhof in Holland. I then scanned it.

Black tulips (Photo: Helena Hurme)

This slide I took while in Holland in 1984. It is from Keukenhof.

Pennies in water (Photo: Helena Hurme)

I think also this picture is from the museum in Canada of which I have so many pictures. It is taken more than 20 years ago so I do not remember exactly!

Sun in the bazaar (Photo: Helena Hurme)

This picture is from January 1990 when I and my husband visited Istanbul. It was the best possible time of the year, because it was not too warm. We walked unbelievably much. The first snow cause a tremendous traffic jam.

One more picture from the museum in Ottawa in 1986, again a scanned slide.

One more scanned slide, this time from Ottawa in 1986. This is a picture from inside the same museum as in the picture below.

Green trees in Keukenhof (Photo: Helena Hurme)

While returning from a year in London, I visited the University of Groningen in Holland for about three weeks. A colleague with his family took me to Keukenhof, one of the most beautiful places I have seen. We arrived just after a rain, which made the scenery even more beautiful. The picture is taken with a Nikon FE II systems camera, which I still own. I then scanned the slide.

A museum in Ottawa (Photo: Helena Hurme)

This picture I took while visiting Canada. Today, I scanned about 30 old slides, some of which I'll publish here on my blog. I liked the sunset behind the building in this picture.
