From a Finnish farm house (Photo: Helena Hurme)
This picture is taken several years ago at an old Finnish farm house in the National Park of Seitseminen. Our university arranged a trip there and I hurried to be the first person to enter in order to get a proper picture. This type of room was very typical in the Finnish countryside in the beginning of the 20th century. It was acombined kitchen, dining room and living room with windows on three sides. I was very sparingly decorated. It would usually have been the husband who sat in the white rocking chair. There were wooden benches all around the room so that the whole villiage could gather in the bigger houses. There usually was a kitchen table/dining table with a bench on the other side as well. The flower is also a typical one as is the carpet on the floor. It was woven from stripes of old clothes which had been cut .
